Welcome to the comfort(-free) zone.

Day in the Life of Matteo

Moving, talking, doing. Matteo never stops.

From his kinetic presence to his progressive work style, his drive and positive attitude have made an impact on KISKA. Behind his infectious smile however, is a big secret: discomfort is his comfort zone.

“New job. New country. New language. I came to KISKA because I was ready to challenge myself.”

Comfort zones are good for sleeping. Not growing. Though content with life in Italy and product management at Dainese, he’s stoked by what he’s found at KISKA. On one hand, it’s an open and easy-going international village in the heart of the Alps. On the other, it’s a fast-paced culture where results count. People go all-in to create brand experiences people love. Matteo is a perfect fit.

On one hand, it’s an open and easy-going international village in the heart of the Alps. On the other, it’s a fast-paced culture where results count. People go all-in to create brand experiences people love. Matteo is a perfect fit.

“KISKA is cool and unusual. It’s full of people from different places who dropped everything to try something new and challenging. The ‘all-in’ attitude is a common thread.”

Focussing on apparel and functional gear, Matteo’s job is advising brands what to make – and when. Thinking in future terms, he creates product strategies that link brand and business. Resulting in products that people love (or, will love in two years’ time). To do this, Matteo scans markets and dives into data. He also travels far-and-wide with KISKA’s Research and Marketing Teams to explore trends. Driven by curiosity, they visit shops, interview users, talk to experts, and buy products.

A lot of products.

“I love products. Any products. I’m interested in what they mean and experiences that come with them.”

In fact, a typical day for Matteo starts with Amazon. Ordering. Picking up. Unboxing. Afterwards, it’s all about collaboration. Especially with KISKA’s Apparel Designers. After all, they realise the collections he’s strategised. Such co-creation is vital for ensuring the final products support the brand.

“It’s cool to mix fields. Integrating is normal, and I’m happy to spend time with the designers to get to a common result.”

Team life doesn’t stop at the studio either. Matteo and the designers roll in the same crew. Once a week he hits up the dojo to grapple with Designer and fellow judo athlete Michele. Paddle boarding on Lake Fuschl is a frequent pastime. As is full body calisthenics, or taking in the sunset at Waldbad. Evenings are made for drinks in the city. Weekends for making fresh pasta for friends.

“I’m always busy. I’ve always been like that.”

Naturally, doing stuff all the time has its hitches. Matteo traces his adventures with a variety of scars, and his MINI Clubman is a mobile closet for sports gear. It’s the pursuit of happiness that drives him however, which is hard to achieve without putting yourself out there. So, when asked if he’s got anything left to do his answer is predictable.

“Of course!”

Strategy is rational. Products are emotional.

Be brave. Be bold. Take risks. In Strategic Product Management, real differentiation happens when products are 100% on-brand. No compromises.
